Writing Session at Pirata | Vlog & Photography

Story

Going to Pirate Studios is always a mystery. Sometimes I go and the place is too loud or there’s technical difficulties. Other times I have shown up and a minimum amount of work has been done. That’s money down the drain. That might be my fault thoe because I do have high expectations. Soulreal taught me that every studio session must feel productive. If I don’t “feel” productive, I call it a loss. I think I needed to define what the word “productive” means. I even texted the homies and used the word “effective”. However, I didn’t even know what that meant. In the past, I always tried to swing big going into a session. I guess I had to lower my expectations and try to have fun without having to hit checkboxes. I also have to take into consideration other people’s energy levels and goals. What if one of the homies just wants to record but I want to write 3 songs? That’s 2 different goals in one shared space. I had to walk in with no expectations this time around.

I pulled up first which was dope because it allowrd me to sit in there alone, prepare my cameras, and mentally lock in. Andre Lucks pulled up next with his equipment. Then this sick ass foo POBRE$A pulled up with a 12 pack of Blue Moons. None of us are professional engineers so having tech issues never fails. Time was ticking and nothing was being done. After a while thoe we said fuck it and agreed to just write. Dre loaded up the beat and we began to flow. I had a concept in mind, shared it with them, they fucked with it, and the session began.

We had to add more hours to our session. I had originally planned it from 5pm-7pm but sometimes things don’t go according to plan. I added another 2 hours to the session. We just kept writing and vibing. Eventually Christian Rhymez pulled up so we had to add an extra hour. 5pm - 10pm. No music was recorded but we did write, exchange ideas, and clowned on each other.

Successful session in my book.
